Beer and brilliance @ Launchpad in a series of 6 1/2 minute talks.
Each Spark Plug Talk brings together ten creative individuals and institutions to share their knowledge and passion in concise presentations. Using the popular micro-presentation format, speakers are limited to showing twenty slides for twenty seconds each. The power of this format lies in its brevity and focus. Presenters get their point across in short order and the audience is continuously engaged.
No, we’re not reinventing the wheel. The micro-presentation format and community idea exchanges have been around a long time and continue to spread under different names with different formats and different intentions. There are the stellar TED Talks, Percha Kucha, Ignite, Lightning Talks, and others. The audience is entertained, informed, maybe inspired, and if they’re bored, it’s only six and a half minutes. The presenters benefit from the format by really refining their ideas, pared down to essentials, and they get an audience of curious minds from their own community. Whether seeking support, potential collaboration, feedback, or raising awareness, these presentations can be an invaluable tool for both presenters and audience. The Spark Plug Talks aren’t re-inventing the wheel but if you are we’d love to get you up on stage to talk about it.
The first Spark Plug Talk will be held at the LaunchPad on Central Ave. Thursday, March 4th. Our presenters will be drawn from diverse backgrounds and projects that include the Arts community, Social Advocacy, Journalism, the Music and Performance community, Archaeology, as well as Architecture and the local IT/Hacker community. We believe in the power of ideas to inspire, but they must be shared to do so. We also believe that it should be fun. This makes the LaunchPad the perfect site for the Spark Plug Talks. We hope you will join us for this exciting event.
The Spark Plug Talks are sponsored and curated by Fab Lab abQ, a fabrication laboratory providing users the ability to locally conceptualize, design, develop, fabricate and test almost anything, and with support from R.B. Greene of the LaunchPad.
